“Remember that there is nothing stable in human affairs; therefore avoid undue elation in prosperity, or undue depression in adversity.”

Here is another example of Socrates’s greatness, the same quotes we can see in Bhagwad-Geeta where Shree Krishna said happiness and sorrow are like winter and summer, they come and go so neither should be upset in adversity nor should be elation in prosperity. and where Krishna mentioned this is the quality of superior wisdom

On the other hand, everyone trying to seek happiness and trying to avoid sorrow, want to live in an illusion where they only want happiness, but without sorrow, you can’t understand the real meaning of happiness. sorrow and happiness both are dependent on each other like without night there would be no true meaning of Day. so we should treat prosperity and adversity equally. Their results (elation and depression)will also be equal automatically.

Socrates knows clearly that elation and depression both are feelings and feelings are temporary, comes after done various type of events.
A man who knows the real meaning of life and who lives in peace can tell us these types of quotes.
Here we can see the peace of mind of the Socrates.

“There is only one good, knowledge.

And one evil, ignorance.”

Why Socrates put much pressure on knowledge?

A man with true knowledge can see the world as it is. He sees the world without any kind of filter, the filter of social beliefs, cultures, positive or negative attitude. with knowledge, a man can see reality, where true wisdom lies. The world that is beyond YOU & ME. Man can see no difference between two entities, where both are similar on the ground-level. Like when water filled in bottles and jugs. both are with different shapes and colors but on the ground-level both are made of water. the reality of jug and bottle is water. like in human beings where everyone with different shapes, colors, information, thoughts, and pattern but at ground-level one thing is similar that is SOUL. SOUL is prime truth beyond humankind. Socrates wants to tell us, knowledge exists in knowing the truth.

Why Socrates named ignorance as evil?

Ignorance means we see something and pretend like we haven’t seen it but it exists which means knowingly we don’t want to accept it. we don’t want to accept the knowledge or break our belief, where every human being lives. they live their own world, the world of rigid belief, cultures, blind-faith, and then tend to pretend like they know everything. and if someone wants to break their blind faith or putting questions on their faith, they gonna mad and become ready to kill him.

Characteristics of evil are, they are harmful to society, surroundings, and themselves.

“Wonder is the beginning of the wisdom”

Wonder is the beginning of the wisdom, but how?

Every child wonders on something new that he has never seen before and he started learning deeply about that thing and wisdom takes its place.

A person wonders When a new thing comes up or he finds. when a person realizes that he knows nothing. At that point he starts to explore everything surrounding him and starts questioning in his mind and when he starts questioning every time he comes up with a new answer and able to understand the world better. To start wondering you have to be a mind of questioning where you question every answer, pattern, beliefs cultures, traditions.

If the inventor stops questioning then the world never would wonder about new inventions. they try to improve and improvement can’t happen without question old one. and that point wonders happens.
